ARTISTIC FEATS  Hedwig Dances and DanzAbierta’s critically acclaimed collaboration, Trade Winds/Aires de Cambio (2014), travels to Cuba for its Havana premiere at the Sala Avellaneda Teatro Nacional de Cuba on January 30-31. The Company celebrates Hedwignites 30 at The Arts Club of Chicago on March 20 with a performance and retrospective video by Nadia Oussenko and stages its 30th Anniversary Performance Concert, One Grand Dance at the Athenaeum Theatre in Chicago May 15-16. One Grand Dance is the title of the evening and the means of linking selected works from Bartoszek’s repertoire. The title refers to the idea that one’s body of work is related to and reflects the ideas, concerns, idiosyncrasies, style and voice of its author. The evening also includes the world premiere of Edson Cabrera’s Bangweulu, a series of duets that investigate the timeless relationships between friends, family and lovers.  The Chicago Cultural Center hosts Hedwig Dances in a series of open rehearsals, a preview video screening and preview showing April 6-10. Later in the year, Hedwig Dances re-releases Bartoszek’s dance for the camera film Arch of Repose, a collaboration with Bitter Jester Creative, with a new music score by composer Richard Woodbury.  Hedwig Dances is collaborating with Bitter Jester Creative to create a documentary about Hedwig Dances’ Trade Winds collaboration with DanzAbierta .
