ARTISTIC FEATS Marking its 24th Season, Jan Bartoszek’s Earthly Tongues, a full company work, received its world premiere to critical acclaim during Hedwig Dances’ Spring Concert at The Ruth Page Center for the Arts and was performed by dancers Victor Alexander, Justin Deschamps, Maray Gutierrez, Kirsty Mackellar and Jen Meek. Mining the rich terrain of ancestry and memory, this multidisciplinary collaboration encompassed an original music score by Stone (aka Winston Damon), video design by Petra Bachmaier of luftwerk, lighting design by Margaret Nelson and costume design by Tatjana Radisic. Ache of the Arc (2002) by Jan Bartoszek, a quintet performed on a set of ladders and walls, was also featured on the program.
LUMA (Loyola University Museum of Art) invited Hedwig Dances to create a unique interpretive performance amidst a seldom-displayed art installation, Silver Clouds, pop artist Andy Warhol’s iconic metallic pillows, memorialized in Merce Cunningham’s RainForest.
