Waltz #3 explores the constraints society imposes on relationships, using the waltz as a metaphor. Based on Elizabeth Aldrich’s book “From the Ballroom to Hell,” Waltz #3 deconstructs both the waltz and society’s rules and rituals. This multi-disciplinary work, a collaboration between choreographer Jan Bartoszek, interdisciplinary and vocal artist Lynn Book; composer David Pavkovic; lighting designer Ken Bowen; and costume designer Caryn Weglarz, developed over two years, first as a workshop piece which was performed in August of 1991 and later for a performance that fall. Waltz #3 is the full realization of the original concept.
