Hedwig Dances’ Summer Intensive, Play + Bauhaus + Dance, offers professional and advanced dancers the opportunity to develop and hone partnering and floorwork skills that are the hallmark of Hedwig’s aesthetic. This year participants will also immerse themselves in the tenets of modernism as it applies to dance, developing playful thinking, experimentation and abstraction to work beyond literal representation to express internal reality.
Led by Artistic Director Jan Bartoszek and Artistic Associate Maray Gutierrez, the Company engages dancers in physically rigorous methods that are built on foundational weight-sharing techniques. The movement development portion will include work with objects and exploring how objects can shape metaphor and transform a visual and kinetic landscape. The company’s creative process challenges participants to interact and connect not only physically, but also conceptually in unique, compelling ways—all within a supportive environment.
As a longstanding and respected institution of the Chicago dance community, Hedwig Dances provides over 30 years of expertise in and understanding of the educational needs of dancers. Studying with Hedwig provides dancers with a solid training that is useful in any situation in their practices and careers. Dancers can rely on the skills they learn in Hedwig Dances’ Summer Intensive to serve them well in their artistic growth.
Daily Class Schedule
10:00am -11:00am: Modern Technique (single class optional)
11:00am -12:15pm: Partnering Skills (single class optional)
12:30pm – 3:00pm: Movement Development with Objects (only available with the full day package)
