The ENERGY of Dance with the MAGIC of Film

October 28 & October 30, FREE Admission
Chicago Cultural Center, 78 E. Washington

The Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Hedwig Dances in cooperation with the
Dance Films Association present "Dance for the Camera", a special two-evening program
showcasing innovative examples of dance films created by artists in the Midwest and
around the world.  The programmatic themes for Dance the Camera 2008 are Landscapes
and Interiors.  The program focuses on how physical setting forms a background and
provides an interactive platform for the human activity in dance film.  Landscapes
generally are more expansive settings for actions while interiors create limited
boundaries and focus the viewers attention inward.  The two programs offer a cross-
section of contrasting approaches to these themes.  Event curators - Jan Bartoszek and
Sarah Best.

Witness premieres by two of Chicago's leading contemporary dance companies: Hedwig
Dances and Lucky Plush Productions. This unique performance challenges two gifted
choreographers - Jan Bartoszek and Julia Rhoads – and their companies to interpret and
respond to the same original musical composition in order to develop two uniquely
innovative dance works.

These performances are part the City of Chicago: Department of Cultural Affairs’ new
Dance Intersections series.  Dance Intersections present collaborations between
accomplished Chicago-based dance companies and independent dance-makers.
Folies d'Espagne - Philip Buiser, USA, 2007
